“Tiyapo” is Kalanga for, ‘we are here’. This phrase is the crux of what the play represents: the advocacy of marginalized tribes and languages, specifically the Kalanga and iKalanga. Tiyapo celebrates diversity and celebrates – in remembrance – a man that fought for people to be treated the same and for everyone to actively preserve their cultures and languages, with the hope that in the future, there may be no indignant person, but rather, a truly united and proud nation.
